Fishing wouldn’t be much fun or very successful if you didn’t have a fly at the end of your rod would it?  We hope to demystify some of the confusion about fly fishing flies. In order to make your own fly fishing flies you will need to know the basics of the anatomy of a fly.  How is it put together?  What materials will work best for a particular type of fly in order to replicate a particular fly?  You will need some basic tools including fine tip scissors, thread, a bobbin to hold the thread, and a vise to hold the hook.  These tools are all readily available at fly fishing stores.

When buying flies, generally the bigger the fish, the bigger the fly needs to be.  Fly fishing flies come in all sizes and price ranges.
