Bamboo Fly Fishing Rods
When some people use a bamboo fly fishing rod for the first time their memories flash back to a time when they fished with their father or grandfather, back to simpler times.  Many years ago the bamboo rod was the rod of choice.  Today, fishermen everywhere are discovering the time old tradition of fishing with bamboo rods.

Most bamboo fly fishing rods are made with Tonkin Cane which is grown in a region in China.  Tonkin cane is extremely strong and flexible making it the ideal choice for constructing a fly rod. Many people think that bamboo is a type of wood, but in fact it is a variety of grass with many power fibers running through the length.  These fibers give the bamboo its strength. Strips of bamboo are glued together to make the perfect rod.

The production of bamboo fly fishing rods is very labor intensive thus the price of a good quality rod can be quite expensive.  However, a well made rod will provide you with years of quality fishing.  There is also a market for used bamboo rods among collectors who appreciate fine quality and the work of the craftsmen of yesteryear.
