First Aid Kits - Essential Additions to Your Fly Fishing Gear
The hope, of course, is that you will never need a first aid kit when fly fishing.  Still, you must carry one with you when you are away from civilization.  There is nothing you can do about an injury if you are not prepared.  A first aid kit can be as large or as small as you want but make sure that it includes these basics:  scissors, moleskin, gauze pads, antiseptic wipes, adhesive tape, tweezers, antiseptic ointment and bandages.

If you participate in outdoor activities frequently, a more comprehensive first aid kit designed around the type of activity is recommended.  Most outdoor shops sell first aid kits in a wide range of prices, some with emphasis on specialty sports, such as fly flishing.  Check the contents periodically to make sure the tools are in good condition and that medications have not expired.  Lastly, make sure that the container is waterproof and strong enough to handle the situation.

In addition to having a first aid kit with you when you’re out fly fishing, it is a good idea to take a basic course in first aid.  At the very least familiarize yourself with the kit and read the instruction manual if there is one.  As the boy scouts say: “Be Prepared!”
