What You Need to Know About Fly Fishing Line |
|
Fly fishing Line is one of the most important items that you need
for your tackle box. Your fly fishing line needs to balance with your
rod and reel in order to work successfully. Rods, reels, and line are
number rated, if you use a number 4 rod, your reel and line should be
the same number.
The fly fishing line weight depends on the type of fish you want to
catch, heavier weight for large saltwater fish, lightweight for river
trout. You will need to determine where the fish are feeding to decide
whether you need floating or sinking line. The type of fly you fish
with also decides the type of line you need. If you use a dry fly, you
will need a floating line. For nymph or wet fly fishing you will need
a sinking line.
Fly fishing line is usually tapered with weight forward and double
taper being the most used. Double taper has both ends tapered while
weight forward has the front end tapered. Sinking lines are available
in several sinking densities. The higher the number, the faster the
sink rate is. There are many reputable brands of fishing line with
Cortland and Scientific Angler among the most popular.
