Insect Repellent Clothing for Fly Fishing
How often do you go fishing without being annoyed by mosquitoes and other insects? Fly fishing would be so much more enjoyable, not to mention safer, without the prospect of being a walking meal for the local insect population. The good news is there are manufacturers out there offering insect repellent clothing that actually repel mosquitoes and ticks, which may potentially being carrying nasty things like malaria, West Nile virus, dengue fever, encephalitis and Lyme disease.

It’s bad enough having to cover your hands and face with insect repellent, but the idea of not having to worry about being bitten through your clothing is an appealing one. If you’re wearing insect repellent clothing, say, a shirt, pants and socks, that are already doing the job of keeping the little chompers at bay, you’ve handled eighty to ninety percent of the attackable surface area on your body so there’s a lot less to have to use a chemical repellent on. Of course, chemical repellents, especially those containing DEET, can be very effective for short periods of time but many people are concerned with overuse of such products as well.

Superior quality insect repellent fishing clothing has been thoroughly tested and is considered to be fully effective for the life of the garment (usually about 25 washings). They usually caution against dry-cleaning. These materials are so effective that, unless you’re in a heavily infested area, you can usually get by with wearing a short sleeve shirt, shorts and socks before having to resort to long sleeves and trousers.
